From Student to Entrepreneur: A Gujarati’s Journey in Australia

Australia is a popular destination for many students, especially from India. It’s a land of opportunities, but also a land that can be expensive and challenging to navigate. Devarshi, like many others, dreamed of not just finding a job but creating something meaningful that would help others in similar solutions.

Devarshi’s story is one of determination, hard work, and taking leaps of faith. From a call center job in Australia to building a community-driven business, his journey is both inspiring and relatable. His story sheds light on the challenges students face, when moving abroad and the struggles of establishing a life in a new country.

WHY INTERNASH?

Internash, which started as a small community for Indians in Australia, grew into the largest platform of its kind. The idea behind internash came from a personal problem that Devarshi faced—finding resources to help Indians migrating to Australia. It wasn’t just about the basics of settling in, like finding accommodation or getting familiar with the city. It was more about understanding how to get a PR (permanent residency) and make the most out of living in a new country. He also started NRI Podcast for that sake. With a purpose to make a conversation of problems and its solution available for people out there.

I didn’t know what I wanted to do at first, but I knew I wanted to build a community,” Devarshi says. “Australia was expensive, and I wanted to help people who were struggling just like I did.”

THE LEAP OF FAITH

Before building Internash, Devarshi did various jobs. At one point, he left a steady job when he had just 2,000 subscribers. He took a leap of faith, investing his savings into something he wasn’t sure would succeed.

Whenever I take a leap of faith, I keep months of savings so, I can survive for 2-3 months, In that time, I figure out if things will work or not,” he recalls.

He worked part-time at a call centre while studying to be financially supported. Yet, the struggles weren’t just about money. The bigger challenge was overcoming the loneliness of being away from home.

People didn’t know me by my name, but my work through Internash,” he says.

FINDING A PROBLEM TO SOLVE

Devarshi’s big break came when he realized that many students were facing the same challenges he had. He knew what it felt like to be lost in a foreign country, unsure of where to get information on PR and student life in Australia.

He turned his frustration into action. “I used to follow Vogue’s videos and wanted to create something similar. Buzzfeed was doing it right.” he says. He wanted to make a platform that wasn’t just about information but about building a sense of community. He saw the gaps in the system and decided to take-action.

It was my own struggle to find resources in Australia, so I decided to share solutions with others,” he adds.

TURNING STRUGGLES INTO A BUSINESS

Devarshi wasn’t just focused on building a community; he wanted to make it sustainable. One of the major challenges he noticed was how difficult it was for students to secure professional jobs in Australia, even after completing their education.

Out of 100 students, 60 struggle to find a stable job, while others succeed. There are many Gujaratis and Indians who have made tremendous amount of money in Australia, but there are many who only struggled,” he explains.

At first, he wasn’t sure if people would pay for professional advice on PR. But soon, he realized that people were willing to invest in proper guidance. “If someone is willing to pay 7,000 rupees for a 40-minute consultation, the outcome matters to them the most. That’s what Internash and Studynash is about,” devarshi says.

ADAPTING TO AUSTRALIA

Moving to Australia brought its own challenges. It wasn’t just about finding work, but also adapting to a new culture and lifestyle. Devarshi found life in Australia to be lonely at times, but fitness helped him stay grounded.

For me, staying fit isn’t just about physical health; it’s about mental health too. If I don’t have physical activity, I feel upset and unmotivated,” he shares.

BUILDING A SUPPORT SYSTEM: WEDNESDAY GATHERINGS

Living far from home meant that devarshi had to build his own support system. He realized that many other Indians in Australia were facing the same struggles. As a result, he started hosting “Wednesday gatherings,” where people could come together, talk, and support each other.

“Being with friends in Australia became a form of therapy,” he says. I really miss that camaraderie now, and that’s why I built a culture of getting together.”

LOOKING BACK: LESSONS LEARNED AND FUTURE ASPIRATIONS

Devarshi’s journey has not been easy, but it has been rewarding. from a small call centre job to building a thriving platform like internash, his story proves that persistence and faith can take you a long way.

“I’m still scared sometimes,” Devarshi admits. “What if it doesn’t work? But at the end of the day i know that everything is Figure-outable.”

He dreams of making the migration process to Australia more accessible for students who want to achieve PR. “I want people to get real advice, and I want them to know that they can succeed here too,” he says.

Conclusion: The Power of Community and Perseverance

In the end, Devarshi’s story is a reminder that taking risks, helping others, and building a community are key ingredients for success. His journey proves that even in the face of challenges, with hard work and determination, anything is possible. If you’re planning to study abroad or migrate to Australia, platforms like Internash can provide the guidance and support you need. Devarshi’s story is a testament to the power of persistence and community in overcoming obstacles. Devarshi’s story is one of determination, hard work, and taking leaps of faith.
